How many romantic comedies can Cameron Diaz sign up for? There are never enough it seems.

In March, the “What Happens in Vegas” star agreed to star in two different rom coms: “Swingles” for Paramount Pictures and an untitled Fox project that would find her alongside her former “Vanilla Sky” co-star Tom Cruise.  Now, Variety reports Diaz will spread the wealth around by appearing in Warner Bros. “Bobbie Sue.”

It doesn’t necessarily sound like a comedy, but the trade reports the picture will find Diaz playing a tough ambulance chaser lawyer whose temperment makes her the ideal candidate to be the face of a prestigious law firm after a powerful client is sued in a sexual discrimination suit.

These pictures seem like savvy career moves considering the questionable box office potential of her next two films: this June’s medical melodrama “My Sister’s Keeper” and Richard Kelly’s Nov. thriller “The Box.”

“Bobbie Sue” doesn’t have a director yet, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be Diaz’s next flick.  Either “Sue” or “Swingles” is close to beginning production.  In either case, after a very serious 2009, look for more laughs from Ms. Diaz next year (as well as “Shrek Goes Fourth”).
