USA has set Christine Lahti and Johnny Sneed for its 90-minute pilot “Operating Instructions.”

Set to be directed by “Hitch” mastermind Andy Tennant, the pilot stars “Jericho” and “Brothers & Sisters” veteran Emily Rose as Lt. Rachel Scott, a former Marine who goes from Navy surgeon to a gig at a military hospital.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lahti (“Chicago Hope”) will play the hospital’s chief administrator, naturally an antagonist of sorts for our heroine. The trade paper says Lahti’s character is named Helen Keller, which we’re sure will be funny in context.

Sneed (“Unhitched”) will play the hospital’s chief medical officer. The trade paper says his character “might share a history with Rachel.” That means he shares a history with Rachel, right?

Nick Zano and Diana Maria Riva were previously cast in the pilot.

Odds on “Operating Instructions” may be a bit long, considering that USA just picked up another medical drama, the Mark Feuerstein-centric “Royal Pains,” to series. However, the cable network may be looking at a variety of potential pairings with off-net episodes of “House.”
