Keira Knightley hattached herself to a number of upcoming productions over the last six months, but it looks like she’s taking a detour to star in a new endeavor, the Sci-Fi thriller “Never Let Me Go” for Fox Searchlight.
Variety reports the Mark Romanek directed flick will find Knightley joining Andrew Garfield (fantastic in “Boy-A”) and Carey Mulligan (who made her debut in Knightley’s “Pride & Prejudice”) as a trio who grow up in a boarding school with no contact with the outside world. When they come of age, they are horrified to discover they are clones grown for the sole purpose of organ donation. One has to wonder if screenwriter and producer Alex Garland (“28 Days Later”) ever saw Michael Bay’s “The Island,” but let’s hope there is a twist to make the scenario more intriguing than it sounds on paper.
Knightley, whose indie “The Edge of Love” is finally debuting stateside later this month, is also attached to star in the Zelda Sayre biopic “The Beautiful and the Dammed” and Columbia’s remake of “My Fair Lady.” Still unclear is whether she’ll join Johnny Depp in the recently announced fourth installment of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise.
Romanek, who hasn’t directed a feature since 2002’s “One Hour Photo,” will begin lensing “Never Let Me Go” next month in London and Norfolk, England.
