After shooting a number of films back to back to back, “Atonement” star James McAvoy promised he was going to take a big break following his promotional requirements for “Wanted” last year and he kept it.  Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, McAvoy has found the perfect project to return with and, no, it’s not “Wanted 2.”  Instead, the actor will star in a new untitled comedy for director Nicole Holofcener (“Friends with Money”).

Based on the real life experiences of screenwriter Will Refser, the dramedy finds McAvoy playing a 25-year-old who learns he has cancer.  Refser successfully battled the disease over several years.  The project was originally called “I’m With Cancer,” but a new title is in the works.

The film is being produced by Seth Rogen and his writing partner Evan Goldberg (“The Pineapple Express”).  Rogen will also have a role in the film.

Mandate Pictures is financing the project, but its unclear who will distribute it in the U.S.

Holofcener is best known for “Money” and “Walking & Talking,” but has the new film “Please Give” featuring Catherine Keener, Amanda Peet and Rebecca Hall waiting for release from Sony Pictures Classics.

Production on the new untitled picture is expected to begin this January.
