R&B artist and actor Ne-Yo has been tapped to star beside Aaron Eckhart, Michelle Rodriguez, Bridget Moynahan and others in the sci-fi alien film “Battle: Los Angeles.”

Ramon Rodriguez (“Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen”), Taylor Handley (NBC’s “Southland”) and Cory Hardrict (“Gran Torino”) have also joined that cast that will be battling the invaders, while Jadin Gould, Bryce Cass and Joey King will play trapped youngsters as war is waged, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Filming starts this week in Shreveport, La., with director Jonathan Liebesman at the helm, and Neal Moritz producing.

“Battle” is a far cry from some of Ne-Yo’s more recent, music-centered work, including “Stomp the Yard” and “Save the Last Dance 2.” He also just finished the closing song for forthcoming Disney flick “The Princess and the Frog.”
