Pearl Jam has set a Sept. 20 release date for “Backspacer,” it’s first album since leaving behind its longtime label home of Epic/Sony.
As previously reported, the album will be sold via Target, but not exclusively. The set will go up digitally, and will be available for purchase also through the band’s website and through select indie retailers. Frontman Eddie Vedder has also hinted at deals with a mobile company, a game manufacturer and others.
We’re personally looking forward to that Cameron Crowe-directed Target video, starring the band. That infamous red and white logo would fit perfectly onto a kick drum head.
The band is playing a limited number of shows, starting in its hometown of Seattle, starting on Sept. 21 in support of “Backspacer.” Even though only pre-sale has gone up this morning at 10 a.m. PST, at least one of the nine shows has sold out. The veteran rock group will play four times at the Gibson Amphitheatre in L.A., twice in Philadelphia, twice in Seattle and once in San Diego.
Presently, Pearl Jam isn’t selling single tickets, only pairs, in the $146-$187 range.
If you can’t fork that out after general onsale start happening on July 17, try to catch the band at the Outside Lands festival in San Francisco on Aug. 28.
