Fast National ratings for Monday, Aug. 10, 2009.
The second night of ABC’s “Who Wants To Be a Millionaire” return at least won its hour, but that wasn’t enough to push the network past CBS’ repeats for the night. Meanwhile, FOX’s Teen Choice Awards proved not to be the choice of any viewers other than teens.
Among adults 18-49, CBS averaged a 2.0 rating, beating ABC and FOX’s 1.4 rating in the key demographic. NBC’s 1.3 rating was good for fourth, while The CW’s 0.3 rating trailed.
Overall, CBS averaged an estimated 6.84 million viewers to go with a 4.6 rating/8 share. NBC’s 3.5/6 nipped ABC’s 3.4/6 for second. FOX was fourth with a 2.4/4, leaving The CW in its familiar fifth place with a 0.5/1.
ABC actually started the night in first with a 4.7/8 for “Millionaire,” though CBS’ “How I Met Your Mother” and “Rules of Engagement” won the hour in the key 18-49 demo, finishing second overall. NBC’s “Great America’s Road Trip” was third with a 2.8/5. FOX’s Teen Choice 2009 telecast had a 2.4/4 for fourth overall. The CW’s “One Tree Hill” had a 0.5/1 for fifth.
CBS moved into first at 9 p.m. with a 5.7/9 for “Two and a Half Men” and “The Big Bang Theory,” which also dominated the key demo. NBC’s “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” was second with a 3.3/5, just beating the 3.0/5 for ABC’s “Dating in the Dark.” FOX’s Teen Choice telecast was up to a 2.5/4, while The CW’s “Gossip Girl” stayed steady with its lead-in.
[Note that although overall ratings for FOX’s Teen Choice telecast were pretty low, the show was dominant among teen viewers, particularly female teens, perhaps due to the multiple wins for “Twilight.” That, of course, only goes to suggest just how few viewers outside of their teens tuned in.]
“CSI: Miami” won the 10 p.m. hour for CBS with a 4.7/8. “Dateline NBC” was second with a 4.2/7, leaving ABC to trail with a “Castle” repeat.
