Fast National ratings for Sunday, March 1, 2009.

Tom Selleck’s latest CBS “Jesse Stone” adventure was popular with older Sunday viewers, but ABC’s “Brothers & Sisters” event and NBC’s “Celebrity Apprentice” premiere proved more successful with younger audiences.

ABC won the night in the key 18-49 demographic, doing a 3.6 rating. FOX was second with a 3.5 rating, followed by the 2.7 rating for NBC and CBS’ 2.4 rating. The CW’s 0.4 rating trailed.

Overall, though, CBS averaged an estimated 13.78 million viewers and an 8.5/13 to win the evening handily. ABC’s 6.9/11 was second, followed by the 5.0/8 for FOX and NBC’s 4.2/7. The CW’s 1.0/2 trailed.

CBS started the night in first with a 9.0/15 for “60 Minutes.” FOX was second with a 6.0/10 for NASCAR coverage. ABC’s “America’s Funniest Home Videos” took third, beating the 2.0/3 for NBC’s Tracy Morgan “Saturday Night Live” special and the 0.7/1 for The CW’s “Jericho” repeat.

ABC moved into first at 8 p.m. with a 6.6/10 for “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.” CBS’ “The Amazing Race” was second with a 6.3/10. Presumably still skewed by NASCAR, FOX’s “The Simpsons” and “King of the Hill” were third. NBC’s Will Ferrell “SNL” special improved to a 3.5/5, while The CW’s airing of “Rain Man” was fifth.

At 9 p.m. the start of “Jesse Stone: Thin Ice” delivered a 9.2/14 for CBS. ABC’s “Brothers & Sisters” two-hour even began with a 7.6/11. NBC was third with a 5.3/8 for the start of “Celebrity Apprentice,” beating the 3.5/5 for FOX’s “Family Guy” and “American Dad.” Note that CBS’ movie actually finished fourth in the hour in the 18-49 demo. Meanwhile, The CW’s movie trailed.

CBS stayed on top at 10 p.m. with a 9.4/15 for “Jesse Stone: Thin Ice.” The second hour of “Brothers & Sisters” was up to an 8.1/13, while NBC’s “Celebrity Apprentice” also improved slightly in its second hour.
