TV Ratings: Wednesday viewers ‘Dance’ with FOX

Fast National ratings for Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2009.

The season’s final “So You Think You Can Dance” performance episode carried FOX to a solid Wednesday win.

Among adults 18-49, FOX averaged a 2.7 rating, topping ABC’s 1.8 rating and the 1.7 rating for NBC in the key demographic. CBS’ 1.4 rating was good for fourth, still ahead of the 0.5 rating for The CW.

Overall, FOX averaged an estimated 7.6 million viewers to go with a 4.7 rating/8 share. CBS’ 4.1/7 and NBC’s 4.0/7 were close behind. ABC’s 2.9/5 was fourth, while The CW trailed with a 0.8/1.

FOX began the night in first with a 4.5/8, but that comes with an asterisk, since ABC’s “Wipeout” averaged more viewers and tied with FOX for the 18-49 crown with a 2.6 rating. NBC was third with a reairing of its catchphrases special. CBS’ “The New Adventures of Old Christine” and “Gary Unmarried” were forth with a 2.7/5. The CW’s “America’s Next Top Model” was fifth with a 0.8/2.

NBC moved into first at 9 p.m. with a 6.0/10 for “America’s Got Talent.” FOX’s “So You Think You Can Dance” was second overall with a 4.8/8 and nipped NBC in the key demo. CBS’ “Criminal Minds” was third, beating the 2.3/4 for the first hour of the “I Survived a Japanese Game Show” finale. The CW’s “America’s Next Top Model” trailed.

CBS moved into first at 10 p.m. with the 5.3/10 for “CSI: NY.” NBC’s “The Philanthropist” had a 2.8/5. ABC’s “Japanese Game Show” finale trailed.
