The “Twilight” magic continues to reap dividends for even the supporting stars of the blockbuster movie.  Cam Gigandet who played James, the evil vampire James that tortured franchise star Bella (aka Kristen Stewart), has been cast opposite “Gossip Girl’s” Leighton Meester in the new Screen Gems thriller “The Roommate.”

Variety reports the psychological thriller follows a crazy college freshman who becomes obsessed with her new roommate.  Gigandet will play the boyfriend of Meester’s character.  Best Short Film Oscar nominee Christian E. Christiansen is directing the “Single White Female” rip off.

Gigandet is no stranger to leading roles, however.  He toplined the action dud “Never Back Down” and also appeared in the horror flick “The Unborn.” He’ll next be seen in the Sci-Fi thriller “Pandorum” with Ben Foster and Dennis Quaid.

Meester was recently cast in a supporting role in the Steve Carell and Tina Fey event comedy “Date Night.”

“Roommate” is expected to start production this May.
