Calvin Harris Enlists PartyNextDoor For The Bouncy New Single ‘Nuh Ready Nuh Ready’

Things are pretty great for Calvin Harris at the moment: Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 was one of 2017’s most high-profile albums, and for five years in a row, he’s been the highest paid DJ in the world. Among his many collaborators on his most recent album is PartyNextDoor, and the duo decided to take another crack at working together: Today, Harris has shared “Nuh Ready Nuh Ready,” a new single featuring PartyNextDoor, and a psychedelic video for the track.

Harris chatted with Zane Lowe about the song on his Apple Music Beats 1 radio show, and said that while working with the enigmatic PartyNextDoor, he didn’t learn a ton more about him:

“I thought he was a genius for a few years. The thing is that I feel like now more than ever, if you don’t come out acting like a genius then you don’t get called a genius. And because he’s like, you know, to the outside a very reserved and very like just off limits, you don’t know what he is. You don’t know what he’s like. You just see an image and you hear a voice and you hear his writing in it and it’s amazing, but you don’t know what it’s all about. I didn’t really figure him out any more working with him. I just know that his pen and his voice and his delivery is, I think, among the best in the world.”

It’s a good thing that Harris is the world’s highest paid DJ: He also talked about all the collaborators on his 2017 album Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 and said that it wasn’t cheap to get the star-studded lineup that he did (which includes Frank Ocean, Migos, Pharrell, Future, Snoop Dogg, John Legend, Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, and others):

“It was the least commercially viable thing anyone’s ever done. I was literally playing a gig in Vegas on a Friday and then giving the money to a feature. That’s what I was doing. I knew I was the only person in the world that could do this album or would even want to. […] I was elated with who I got on the album. The whole thing was for more sort of a self-gratifying project. It was just perfect. I just absolutely loved every minute.”
