Embedded below is a compilation from the ’80s cartoon “Jem”: every instance that heroine Jerrica Benton said, “Showtime, Synergy!” (thus changing her into pink-haired glam rocker Jem, lead singer of the Holograms) and its companion catch phrase “Show’s over, Synergy,” which alerted her magical computer to change her back to mild-mannered record label owner Jerrica. As for the picture of the bear? Well, it’s just a screen cap from one of the scenes. Frankly, the video could use a lot more of that bear.
At the very least, this is great just for the reminder that women in shoulder pads and terrible clothes invaded ’80s cartoons as well as real life. Besides, I have a deep fondness for Jem. Along with Cheetara from “Thundercats” and slave Leia from Return of the Jedi, she played a large part in me ending up straight (sorry, gays!). I also blame her for my obsession with pink hair, realized all too infrequently by Gwen Stefani and Scarlett Johansson in Lost in Translation. But at least that’s not as weird as my other fetish: cats in metal bikinis. HAWT!
