Another one of the many, many benefits of playing with Anthony Davis: guards can throw lobs almost anywhere. Watch Tyreke Evans find The Brow for a soaring crunch-time alley-oop in the New Orleans’ Pelicans wild 116-113 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Pretty, pretty good finish. But the actual game’s, of course, was far better.
Though this bucket put the Pelicans up seven with just over two minutes left, their work was hardly done from there. Kevin Durant nailed a pair of three-pointers due to lackluster New Orleans defense and Tyreke Evans missed two at the free throw line to give the Thunder multiple chances to win or send the the game to overtime in its final moments.
Oklahoma City finally took advantage on its last one, as Russell Westbrook – who scored a career-high 48 points – calmly sank three free throws with just over one second remaining after being fouled by Quincy Pondexter. But that just set the stage for the night’s most incredible moment:
We’ll remember Davis’ shot forever, but it wouldn’t have been possible without so many plays like this alley-oop from the previous 47 minutes and 59 seconds. And Evans deserves major credit, too – his monster 22-point, 10-rebound, 16-assist triple-double was easily overlooked due to The Brow’s heroics and more Westbrook dominance.
What a game.
The 27-23 Pelicans trail the Phoenix Suns by one game for eighth-place in the West. Having fallen back to .500, Oklahoma City is now two games behind New Orleans.
