Malcolm Brogdon came up limp on a dunk attempt on Thursday night and now we know why. The Bucks’ young standout will be out six to eight weeks with a partially torn quadriceps, a big blow to Milwaukee’s playoff push.

Brogdon won Rookie of the Year last season and was having a productive 13.5 points per game effort this year, and his loss is a big one for a Bucks team some expect to make a playoff run this spring.

The incident was especially scary considering it was a non-contact injury. Brogdon was attempting to score on a fast break against the Minnesota Timberwolves. At first it looked like he had an uncontested dunk, but his jump looked awkard and he went down in a heap. He had to be helped off the floor, and did not return. According to a team release, an MRI revealed the damage on Friday.

This morning, he underwent an MRI and subsequent examination by team physician Dr. William Raasch at Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin. The exam revealed a partially torn left quadricep tendon that is expected to sideline Brogdon for 6-to-8 weeks.

A partial tear is probably better than a more serious leg injury, and Brogdon will likely be able to get back in time to make an impact for the Bucks.
