3,000 Actors And An Audition With Chewbacca Later, Alden Ehrenreich Is Officially Han Solo

C-3P0 once told Han Solo that the odds of successfully navigating an asteroid field were 3,720 to 1. Funnily enough, Alden Ehrenreich faced similar odds to become the “young” Han Solo.

Over the last year, more than 3,000 actors were auditioned in Disney and Lucasfilm’s search for a young Han. Countless callbacks, a “short” list of dozens of actors and the specter of Harrison Ford’s iconic role hung over the process. Lucasfilm knew they had to get this right, so their search was lengthy and meticulous. Now, after various reports that the Hail, Caesar! actor would be the one to don the vest and pilot the Millennium Falcon — it’s official: Alden Ehrenreich is Han Solo.

It was the worst kept secret in Hollywood over the last few months, and now it’s out there for everyone to judge. Alden Ehrenreich has huge boots to fill, but after such a rigorous vetting, how could he not be the guy? At the Star Wars Celebration Europe panel Ehrenreich talked about heading into the proverbial audition asteroid field.

“When it first came along I knew everybody would be going out for it. I read the sides and loved them and thought, ‘Who knows, but let me give it a shot.’”
Translation: “Who knows, but let me give it a shot,” is the new “Never tell me the odds.”
