‘Alien: Covenant’ Will Have Double The Michael Fassbenders. Be Still, My Heart

We just saw the new Xenomorphs from Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant, and now one of the film’s returning stars is revealing even more. Michael Fassbender — who played the android David in Prometheus — felt comfortable revealing a minor character spoiler to The Irish Times:

“I am allowed to say I am playing two robots — Walter and David. I think what’s great about it is that Ridley has gone back to the original DNA of Alien, the horror element of that. But is also has the scope and the scale of Prometheus. Ridley has cut it already. He is a machine. He is an incredible human being and he was in such good form. He is such an imaginative and mischievous figure.”

It’s been rumored for awhile that Fassbender was playing multiple versions of the David android, so this other android is news to us. AVP Galaxy adds some more details about the new model. They say Walter is the newer android, and he distrusts David because he “has gone without any form of maintenance or upgrades during the ten year interval he has been in isolation between the Prometheus incident and the Covenant crew making landfall on the supposed paradise planet that Alien: Covenant takes place on.”

We’re not yet sure why Ridley Scott broke with the normal naming convention for this android. There was Ash, then Bishop, then Call, then David, then… Walter? Alphabet, you’re drunk.

Fassbender also said Scott’s already finished a cut of Alien: Covenant, which opens on August 4th, 2017. He reiterated what he’s said before about it being scarier than Prometheus. Scott has said he was shooting for “a pretty hard R” rating, for what it’s worth.

Anyway, if we’re going to just start cloning Michael Fassbenders up in here, can I have one? Just to play chess with, of course.

Right. Chess.
