Buddy The Elf Lines For When You Can’t Contain Your Christmas Spirit

There has never been a more exuberant character than Buddy the Elf. Will Ferrell’s infectious turn as a man raised as one of Santa’s elves who heads to the Big Apple to find his dad made Elf (which is a part of the Warner Bros. Holiday Gift Guide) into a modern Christmas classic.

It’s easy for some people to get bogged down by obligations and cynicism this time of year, and then there are those who can barely contain their Christmas spirit. If you’re the latter, then Buddy, with his sunny disposition and deeply ingrained love of Christmas, is your spirit animal and these quotes will help you celebrate your affinity for elf culture and the holiday season.

“I just like to smile. Smiling’s my favorite.”

Unsurprisingly, people having to work retail around the holidays do not understand Buddy’s ear-to-ear grin. He’s just so overcome with Christmas that he can’t help but have it written all over his face, even in Gimble’s. This is a good one for when people don’t quite understand your excitement. However, your holiday enthusiasm will probably win them over in the end. Or they’ll shout cursewords at you until you stop. Either way.

“SANTA! OH MY GOD! SANTA’S COMING! I KNOW HIM! I KNOW HIM!”

Sure, mall Santas and other impersonators are usually just for children. Still, there’s nothing wrong with an adult completely losing their cool in the presence of the Big Man (most of the time). Try not to start screaming in a public place, but if you must, this is the quote for you.

“We elves try to stick to the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns and syrup.”

No one eats healthy things around the holidays, and snacking can truly become an art form. Baking Christmas treats is one of the best parts of the season, even if your waistline will need some attention come the New Year. If anyone calls you out on your exorbitant munching, just remind them that you’re trying to live as the elves do.

“Does somebody need a hug?”

If you really love Christmas, the chances are that you’re a hugger as well. After a long day of shopping and caroling, sometimes the best gift that you can give is a warm embrace. However, if your hugging enthusiasm spreads as far as Buddy’s, you may be a little out of control. Pro tip: If your inquiry is met with a vicious snarl, take your open arms elsewhere.

“I’m singing! I’m in a store and I’m siiiiiingiiiiing! I’m in a store and I’m siiiiiingiiiiing!”

There really isn’t a wrong time to break out this quote. It’ll get a smile every time, so if you can put aside your sense of shame (let’s be real, you always do during the holidays) and belt it out the next time you’re in Target, you’ll… probably look like a weirdo, but chances are most people will be in on the joke. Your Christmas cheer just can’t be contained by pesky social norms that warn against belting out your feelings in public.

“You did it! Congratulations! World’s best cup of coffee! Great job, everybody. It’s great to meet you.”

While most of your energy will be channeled toward Christmas and all the joy that it brings, encouraging others is a great way to spread holiday spirit in a kind and constructive way. Sure, you might come off as a little weird, but no one has ever gotten angry about being thanked and appreciated. If you try this out on your barista next time, maybe you’ll get some Christmassy latte art.

“What’s a Christmas gram? I want one!”

Even if you don’t understand someone else’s holiday traditions, your Christmas cheer will compel you to embrace pretty much all of them that you come across. The name of the game is enthusiasm, so embrace each unknown as if it is your old favorite. Who knows, maybe it will be a part of your Christmas M.O. before too long.

“First we’ll make snow angels for two hours, then we’ll go ice skating, then we’ll eat a whole roll of Tollhouse Cookiedough as fast as we can, and then, to finish, we’ll snuggle.”

Because the holiday season only lasts so long, you have a limited amount of time to cram in all of your favorite activities. Never fear! With a little planning and determination, you’ll be able to fit them all in without fail. Sure, you might come across as a little intense, but that is an easy sacrifice in the name of Christmas.

“The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.”

Usually, for people to get excited, someone has to lead the way. Someone has to be the instigator of excitement, even around Christmas. While the intrinsic spirit of the holidays may be enough to get things going, it’s up to you and your overflowing Christmas cup to take things to the next level. Singing isn’t always the right way, but this quote really speaks to the fact that all it takes is one person doing their best to make the holidays bright.
