Here’s When ‘Star Wars’ Fans Will Reportedly See The First Preview For ‘The Last Jedi’

Eight months before the movie’s release, Star Wars devotees at Celebration — the “ultimate fan experience focused on a galaxy far, far away,” where guys in Ben Quadinaros costumes are hailed as rock stars — were treated to the memorable “Chewie, we’re home” teaser for The Force Awakens. Well, guess what? It’s eight months until The Last Jedi, and Celebration begins this week. There’s no official announcement that a teaser is coming, but Kamino wasn’t officially in the Jedi Archives, either, and Obi-Wan still found it. (Two prequels references in one articles? I must be desperate for new Star Wars.)

According to Star Wars News Net, a “preview” will debut during Celebration’s The Last Jedi panel on Friday, but it “will definitely have the ‘full trailer’ feel, not just a brief teaser.” ScreenRant adds, “Specifics beyond that are not mentioned, but several will be encouraged by this development. Lucasfilm has kept an ironclad lock on any official reveals up to this point, so it arguably would have been disappointing if the trailer was simply a short ‘roll call’ of the main characters – similar to the announcement trailer for Episode VII.”

The footage should be more substantial than what Disney shareholders watched last month, when they heard Luke Skywalker speak for the first time since 1983’s Return of the Jedi. His instantly iconic opening line: “Who are you?” Okay, maybe it’s not as memorable as “Chewie, we’re home,” but give him a break, The Who’s Who Are You was still new to him back then.

Star Wars: Episode VIII — The Last Jedi comes out on December 15.
