Everything old is new again in Hollywood, with a number of classic comedies getting the sequel treatment despite the original film getting a little long in the tooth. If Zoolander No. 2 and Dumb And Dumber To are any indication, sometimes it’s best to leave the past in the past. However, if Isla Fisher is to be believed, Wedding Crashers will also be getting the unnecessary sequel treatment.
While on the promotional trail for Nocturnal Animals, Isla Fisher had some news on Today for people who were hoping for another classic Owen Wilson/Vince Vaughn team up.
“I bumped into Vince Vaughn at a party and he said that apparently we’re going to be making a sequel. So I’m really excited to see what’s happened to Gloria… there’s some talk of it.”
Now, this isn’t exactly the proclamation of a done deal, but if there’s a franchise that can be built around a lucrative comedy from over a decade ago, Hollywood will find it. Sure, the movie ended with both crashers getting out of the wedding game and realizing that monogamy wasn’t so terrible after all, driving off into the sunset with their new girlfriends. Still, no narrative leap is too big that can’t be written away with a few lines of awkward dialogue.
