Flying Lotus Returns As Captain Murphy For The New Track “Crowned”

Adult Swim’s Singles Program is one of the best new music programs around, it’s 25 weeks long and features a new song from bands each week. They always get the biggest artists or artists who are about to blow up, this year is no different with new music from Run The Jewels, Against Me!, Ryan Hemsworth, and Protomartyr. With their latest installment, they’ve tapped producer Flying Lotus’s rapping alter-ego, Captain Murphy, for the dark and eerie track “Crowned.”

Upon first listen, the track could be mistaken for a Tyler, The Creator or Earl Sweatshirt track with its deep sounding vocals and ominous beats, which would make sense since FlyLo and the Odd Future crew are very close and have worked together in the past. Captain Murphy has released music through Adult Swim’s Singles Program in the past and has kept up the tradition ever since.

FlyLo’s rapping side project currently has only one release in 2012’s Duality, and even with the release of “Crowned” the producer hasn’t said when or if there will ever be a follow-up. Maybe there hasn’t been a sophomore Captain Murphy album because Flying Lotus is having too much fun checking his email with Eric Andre.
