Premiere: See Through Dresses’ ‘Pretty Police’ Is All Shimmer And Muscle

Omaha’s See Through Dresses couldn’t have picked a better name for their new single. I’m hesitant to describe it as dream-pop, because that always seems to imply aimlessness and a sense of drifting. While “Pretty Police” from the band’s upcoming album Horse Of The Other World certainly shimmers and sparkles like other songs in that microgenre, there’s a grounded feeling and a bit of grit to their sound that sets them apart.

Sara Bertuldo’s vocals absolutely soar, but the heavy bass line and looping guitars keep her tethered. The track sounds like an authority figure hit with a glitter bomb, a moment of levity for a person who can’t quite fully give in to it and divorce themselves from the world.

“Pretty Police” is indicative of the band’s new sound, turning away from the heaviness of their debut End of Days toward something more ethereal. And if it means more tracks like “Pretty Police,” we say keep ’em coming.

Horse Of The Other World is out on June 30 via Tiny Engines. Pick up the pre-order here and check them out on tour when they hit the road with another Uproxx fave Charly Bliss later this week.
