Your stoner friend from high school is freaking out right now, because not only are the surviving members of the Grateful Dead reuniting this summer, they’re bringing along Phish’s Trey Anastasio to fill in for the late Jerry Garcia. The Grateful Dead have been annoying the Eric Cartmans of the world for 50 years, and to celebrate, Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart, and Bill Kreutzmann are playing three shows at Chicago’s Soldier Field, where Garcia’s final performance took place.
According to CoS, “The Dead reportedly had several other offers on the table, including one from Bonnaroo to headline this year’s festival, but ultimately decided for the Chicago shows,” with Weir commenting, “These will be the last shows with the four of us together.” Probably because Mickey Hart’s gonna keel over during hour-47 of a heavy “Dark Star” groove.
The shows are from July 3-5, and tickets go on sale in February.
