The Weeknd’s ‘Starboy’ Video With Daft Punk Rocketed Past One Billion YouTube Views

The Weeknd has just recently entered a significantly rarified airspace. The video for his Daft Punk collaboration “Starboy” has officially crossed over 1,000,000 streams on YouTube. Its an incredible feat to be sure, one that’s only been matched by a handful of other artists across the last decade.

“Starboy” was the first single released from the Toronto-native’s No. 1 album by the same name. It’s also one of two songs that he cooked up with the legendary robotic EDM artists. In an interview with Zane Lowe on Beats 1 right around the time the record dropped, the Weeknd talked about how that track came together while they were working on another song titled “I Feel It Coming.”

“I walk in and it’s [Daft Punk member] Guy-Man on his phone, on his laptop or something, and it’s the drums of ‘Starboy.’ We’re like, ‘What is that?’ He’s like, ‘It’s just something on my phone,’ and I’m like, “Put that sh*t on the f**king speakers, let me hear that.’ And it’s just this crazy monstrous loop, so I put ‘I Feel It Coming’ to the side. I’m like, ‘I’m writing this.’ Literally wrote ‘Starboy’ in 30 minutes.”
