Adidas Refreshed Its Afterburner Cleat For A Memorial Day Tribute

Adidas is making a habit of releasing colorways to celebrate important holidays this spring. After showing its floral side with a pink chrome pair of Afterburners to celebrate Mother’s Day, the company has announced a pair to celebrate veterans.

Paying homage to those that have served in the armed forces, the adizero Afterburner Memorial Day cleats are more subdued than the Mother’s Day edition. The matte khaki print is highlighted by a pretty striking centerpiece—a poppy flower made of red silicone.

The remembrance poppy isn’t common in the United States, but is often worn by people in the UK and Canada to memorialize those lost fighting in the military and armed services. Here, adidas pairs the flower with a ribbon that says “thank you” to tie the poppy’s meaning together.

Other unique details on the cleats includes a pull tab on the heel that reads “Forever Honor,” and the colorway was modeled to look similar to a military unifiorm.

Much like the Mother’s Day Afterburners, this version of the shoe includes updated with the latest, lightest technology, and are built on a PROTRAX cleat configuration for additional traction to get players down the base paths as fast as possible while looking their best.

The cleats went on sale Monday on the adidas website, just in time to snag a pair before your family barbecue.
