Yesterday, “The American Gangster” Chael P. Sonnen participated in a Reddit Ask Me Anything, and there were some pretty good moments of insight by Chael. Here are some of the highlights!
Chael who is your favorite fighter of all time to watch and why?
This actually doesn’t require an explanation because Frankie is pretty awesome.
Will Jon Jones lose to Rumble?
How would Weidman do against Jones? Cain?
JJ/AJ won’t happen.
Weidman is the best. Should stay at 185 for now.
I assume Chael means that Jones losing to Rumble won’t happen, which is how I see the fight playing out, too. I’m also in agreement with Sonnen about Weidman.
How did you deal with your first loss to Anderson? Was it hard to mentally get over?
No. The second was. I fell down, but I could have got up. I had a change to pop up and I lost my composure. That one keeps me up.
Do you think Anderson silva was juicing when he fought you?
By todays standards? Sure. More than I was? Doubtful.
Holy cow, that’s some deep honesty by Chael.
Who do you see winning, McGregor or Aldo?
This isn’t a close fight. “And still.”
Okay, now it’s getting scary how similar Chael and I are on these fight opinions. If he starts proclaiming his love for the Dagestan fighter, I’m going to get concerned.
Hey Chael, thanks for doing the AMA! I have a few questions:
1. How much weight did you cut normally before a fight?
2. Many compare Conor McGregor to you. What are your thoughts on him, and how do you see McGregor- Aldo going?
3. As someone with no martial arts experience, what advice would you give to me before I started MMA?
4. We’re you always a confident person, or was it something that developed over time?
37lbs was the norm. I don’t suggest doing that.
Conor is great fun. I like his attitude and his love for the sport.
MMA is for sissies. Become a fighter. Let those air punching, board breaking, PJ wearing, dorks have there fun. Just don’t rely on it if things jump off.
Thirty-seven pounds sounds like an insane amount of weight to cut before a fight. Chael is a crazy person for doing that.
What ever ended up happening with the WWE/Wanderlei situation? Is there some more MMA/Pro Wrestling crossover in the future?
If not that specific matchup, do you see pro wrestling as a possibility?
Ive had those calls and his name has come up. I’m not sure where his head is at. We had an offer to wrestle infront of the Chechnyan President.
Sure, that makes total sense. Chael and Wanderlei wrestling in front of the Chechen president, just like Bob Sapp and Ric Flair wrestling in front of a million people in North Korea.
Hey Chael! Would you rather fight 1 horse sized duck, or 100 duck sized horses?
I’ll take the Duck
Of course, it wouldn’t be a proper AMA without that question.
I have to admit, there wasn’t much that Chael said that made me want to smash my head through a wall. This seemed much more like “Sincere Chael” from The Ultimate Fighter than “Shtick Chael” where here’s quoting Superstar Billy Graham promos after his fights.
