Watch Ellen DeGeneres Surprise A Terminally Ill Comedian With His Own HBO Special

Comedian Quincy Jones is only 32 years old, but has stage 4 cancer and a year to live. He has wanted to raise the money to perform in a standup comedy special before he dies, and on Monday’s episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Jones learned that Ellen is helping in a big way to make that dream come true.

“Here’s the thing that you mentioned last time,” says DeGeneres, in a clip from the interview with Jones. “That you want to do a comedy special, that it’s really important for you to do a comedy special… What you don’t know, we called the head of HBO, and your people didn’t even tell you this, but HBO is gonna air your special.”

Jones’ reaction is pure excitement as this news sinks in. He starts laughing uproariously and clapping his hands, saying, “You’re lying! Are you serious?” He laughs so hard that he starts coughing, at which Ellen says, “There’s water if you want it,” for which he quickly thanks her, displaying some good comic timing.

Ellen also told Jones that Shutterfly is giving him $15,000 to produce the special, presenting him with a giant check in the process. The special will tape on April 4 at the Teragram Ballroom in Los Angeles. You can still donate to Jones’ Kickstarter for the special, as well.
