Maria Bamford And Netflix’s ‘Lady Dynamite’ Gets A Surreal First Trailer Full Of Comedy Heavyweights

Maria Bamford is probably not an actress that many know instantly by name, but she’s been in so many memorable roles throughout the span of her career that it’s hard not to recognize her. Perhaps one of her most interesting recent roles was in the latest, Netflix-exclusive season of Arrested Development, where she served as a love interest (of sorts) for the ever-bumbling Tobias Funke.

Bamford will once again team up with Arrested Development creator and writer Mitch Hurwitz for the upcoming Netflix original series based loosely on her life, Lady Dynamite. Lady Dynamite is loosely based around the life and times of Maria Bamford’s crazy career. But the twist is that it is done in a somewhat ridiculous, over-the-top, satirical style while taking on a surreal feel. The show focuses on her tumultuous, often downright insane career in show business while coping with bipolar disorder, which means a lot of highs and lows.

Lady Dynamite is scheduled to be released on Netflix on May 20th. As a part of the 4/20 Keep Netflix Weird FYC event the company will be screening episodes tonight to those in attendance and have also released the above trailer showing just what to expect from Lady Dynamite when it drops.
