It’s a classic scenario. There’s a small Western town, a gang of vicious outlaws swooping in to terrorize it, and a group of old West heroes standing firm and putting those outlaws on their backs or in a noose. Of course, usually those old West heroes aren’t time travelers with superpowers, but hey, even American myth has to change with the times.
In this case, the white hat is, who else, Ray, whose cheery attitude and inability to let anything go seem destined to get him shot. So of course he’s the sheriff. Fortunately, he’s got the rest of the team for backup, with Snart seemingly the black-hat anti-hero. Unfortunately, they’ve also got a collection of time-traveling bounty hunters after them, and even with Chronos on their side, they’re probably going to need a little help. Because really, what’s a Western without a team up?
This also allows the series to explore some side tributaries of DC Comics history, namely the once enormously popular Western comics starring Jonah Hex. Jonah hasn’t had the best of luck being brought to the screen, as his 2010 movie was a disaster. So this is a chance for DC to redeem the scarred former Confederate and perhaps introduce him to more fans. We’ll see how that goes tonight at 8 p.m. EST on the CW. Join us, won’t you?
