It’s pilot season right now, which means that much of the news coming out of Hollywood is about new shows you won’t see until the fall starring people you may or may not remember from other shows. So from time to time I’ll be filling you in on new projects that are coming down the pipe. Today: pilots for “Scrubs” alumna Sarah Chalke and “Daily Show” vet/Marine officer Rob Riggle.

Chalke has landed the female lead in the ABC comedy pilot Freshman. [She] will play Jane, a smart and funny freshman congresswoman who excels at pretty much everything except (drumroll… ) relationships! [EW]

CBS has picked up a comedy pilot starring former “Daily Show” correspondent Rob Riggle. Written by Bill Martin and Mike Schiff, “Team Spitz” is a multicamera ensemble comedy centered on a bombastic high school football coach played by Riggle. [THR]

A lead actor and a brief description of a show’s concept isn’t a whole lot to go on, so I don’t feel comfortable saying that either of these sounds particularly good or bad. But I like Chalke (to the point that I may or may not have watched half of Maneater), and Rob Riggle did one of my favorite “Daily Show” reports of all time:
