A U.S. Senator Quit ‘Game Of Thrones’ Over The ‘Gratuitous Rape Scene’

Warning: Spoilers ahead.

The fallout over the controversial rape scene from Sunday’s Game of Thrones continues. Feminist geek website the Mary Sue announced that they will no longer promote the HBO series, after the showrunners “chose to use rape as a plot device. Again.”

Meanwhile, Senator Claire McCaskill, a Democrat from Missouri, shared her thoughts on Twitter.

Say what you will about McCaskill quitting the show over the Sansa scene (I thought it was pretty darn unnecessary, but this unspeakable cruelty has been ingrained in the show’s DNA since Season 1, beginning with Daenerys’ wedding night), you have to like how she mentioned the Water Gardens first. Both scenes were terrible, but in very different ways.
