The Original ‘Sweet Transvestite From Transylvania’ Blesses Fox’s ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’ Remake

Tim Curry has been in failing health in recent years ever since a debilitating stroke in 2012 and is currently in a wheelchair, but he made a rare public appearance on Monday’s FOX panel at the Television Critics Association summer press tour. There to promote the network’s upcoming remake of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, the cult classic that remains his most famous role, Curry was well enough to crack a few jokes and fully endorse the updated version of the movie. Ever the thoughtful actor, Curry said he even offered to return to the production as Dr. Scott, a rival scientist who is already in a wheelchair in the original production so would be a role that would be perfectly attuned to the actor’s current health.

Instead, Curry will be the project’s narrator and as such a consistent presence throughout the show. While on the panel, Curry was asked about whether he gives the project his “unequivocal blessing” and happily replied “I do indeed.” If any long-time fans are still concerned about embracing a modern update to the film, this might be the last straw when it comes to convincing holdouts to love it. If Curry, who fully admits he owes his fame to Rocky Horror, says he’s all in on this project then fans can be as well. Director Kenny Ortega even confirmed that the spirit of the fans who fill movie theaters for midnight showings around the country would be included in the new version of the movie too.

Everything’s coming together perfectly for people to fully embrace a new version of The Rocky Horror Picture Show right alongside the original.
