‘The X-Files’ Will Likely Return For Another Event Series, Just Not Soon

Despite a confusing premiere and additional episodes that, aside from a lone standout, left longtime fans questioning whether the so-called “event series” was worth itThe X-Files will be coming back to television some time in the near future. Yes, despite the fact that creator Chris Carter left viewers literally dangling by the thin, invisible threads of a possibly human-made and propelled alien craft in the middle of Washington, D.C., FBI special agents Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) and Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) will return. At some point.

That’s according to a conference call Fox co-chairmen and CEOs Dana Walden and Gary Newman had with Entertainment Weekly and other reporters. No real details were given because, frankly, there were none to be had. But that didn’t stop the pair from claiming that “all parties involved want to do another installment of the show.” Not just Carter and a bunch of Fox executives, Duchovny itching for a few extra million, or Anderson wanting at least the same amount as her male counterpart. All parties.

Since neither of the series’ major stars has any free time in their current schedules, however, more of The X-Files‘ revival won’t abduct our televisions anytime soon, especially since Fox didn’t announce a new season at its upfronts. If another batch of new episodes happens to come to fruition, and if all parties are truly on board for more, then let’s hope Rhys Darby can get in on the action too.
