After a turbulent first two weeks in office, it’s fitting that Stephen Colbert would reach out to Jon Stewart to stop by The Late Show to discuss President Trump’s executive orders and their effect to this point. Each appearance has seen a different Stewart, from his fiery first appearance that acted as a Daily Show throwback to his musical appearance from the night before the election.
Tuesday’s appearance brings a Stewart more suited for the current political landscape. Since the president is a style-maker, the former Daily Show host decided to sport his longest tie to compliment his finest booted suit. Then he strapped a dead animal on his head and walked out on stage. Perfection, right?
The main reason Stewart stopped by is to outline some of the president’s future executive orders with Colbert. What ends up happening is the two break down over Stewart’s head animal and his gigantic tie. They get through, though, and lay out some great executive orders that include buying China’s Great Wall and forcing Mexico to pay the C.O.D. and changing the language of the United States government to “bullsh*t.” The real joke is all the executive orders they had to skip for television.
There’s just a massive pile of props sitting next to Stewart, including scrolls and stone tablets, and neither he or Colbert can keep it straight. Even the long tie falls apart with a tug because it’s a clip on.
It does end with some of that Stewart inspiration he used so well on The Daily Show. He’s spot on when he says the presidency is supposed to age the president, not the public.
