Lady Gaga Just Dropped ‘Perfect Illusion’ Her First Single In Close To Four Years

Though she’s been building quite a name for herself in the TV world on FX’s American Horror Story and even snagged a lead role in Bradley Cooper’s upcoming directorial debut, Lady Gaga will always be known as a prolific, multi-platinum singer/songwriter first and a wearer of questionable clothing items second.

That said, it’s been close to three years since Gaga released her last album — 2014’s Tony Bennett collaboration Cheek to Cheek — and even that wasn’t exactly what you’d call a “Lady Gaga album.” So with the “little monsters” of the world frothing at the gills for some new material, Gaga first teased a single from her upcoming album a few weeks back, “Perfect Illusion,” then probably booked another movie gig and went radio silent once again.

Earlier tonight, however, Gaga finally released the full “Perfect Illusion” track via a tweet that wouldn’t be out of place in a promo for the upcoming season of American Horror Story.

You can head over to Fuse.tv to check out the track, which combines all of the classic Gaga tropes (a military style marching beat, absolutely crushing vocal melodies, etc) with a more raw focus on instrumentation than Gaga’s previous hits like “Bad Romance” and “Poker Face.”

Produced by Mark Ronson, Bloodpop and Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker, the track is a banger that should be soaring up the charts by this time tomorrow and eating your brain out from within by the end of the week. (IT WASN’T LU-UH-UVVV, IT WASN’T LU-UH-UVVV…)

No official release date has been set for Gaga’s currently untitled solo album yet, but word has it that it will be dropping in the fall.
