Tom Hardy Is Going Mad And Doing Foolish Things In A New Teaser For ‘Taboo’

I have sworn to do very foolish things.” So promises Tom Hardy of Mad Max: Fury Road and Myspace fame in the new teaser for FX event series Taboo. Hardy continues to be his pants-sh*ttingly intense self in the teaser, in which he plays a man assumed dead in Africa who returns to London in 1814 to take back what remains of his father’s shipping empire. We’ve all been there.

Taboo reteams Hardy with Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, telling a story co-written by Hardy and his dad, who is named Chips Hardy. We’re going to pause for a moment and bask in the knowledge that there’s guy out there named “Chips Hardy” because that’s the best.

The eight-episode event series, executive produced by Ridley Scott, also stars Game Of Thrones‘ Oona Chaplin as Hardy’s half-sister and Pirates of the Caribbean‘s Jonathan Pryce as his nemesis, the head of the East India Company. Here’s the full synopsis, in case you weren’t already sold on this:

Set in 1814, Taboo follows James Keziah Delaney, a man who has been to the ends of the earth and comes back irrevocably changed. Believed to be long dead, he returns home to London from Africa to inherit what is left of his father’s shipping empire and rebuild a life for himself. But his father’s legacy is a poisoned chalice, and with enemies lurking in every dark corner, James must navigate increasingly complex territories to avoid his own death sentence. Encircled by conspiracy, murder, and betrayal, a dark family mystery unfolds in a combustible tale of love and treachery.

Taboo is set to premiere on FX in early 2017.
