Frank Kaminsky is the newest name linked to the Knicks at number 4 in the 2015 draft. Kaminsky is one of many prospects the Knicks have shown interest in during the pre-draft process. The Wisconsin big man would provide the shooting and passing from the power forward position that Phil Jackson wants in the triangle offense. Most mock drafts have Kaminsky going in the 8-12 range, but the Knicks’ interest in Kaminsky is legitimate according to Sporting News:
Kaminsky would not have gone to New York unless the interest from the Knicks was real. And he was assured that it was, that the team would not waste his time or theirs unless there was a chance he would wind up with the Knicks.
The Knicks have discussed moving back in the draft to possibly grab Kaminsky or Kentucky forward Trey Lyles. The latest rumor has the Knicks and Suns swapping picks in a deal for Eric Bledsoe.
The Suns had talks with the Knicks about dealing the fourth pick for point guard Eric Bledsoe and the No. 13 pick, but Phoenix has not been limited to the Knicks in that regard. The Suns have been dangling Bledsoe in trade offers this offseason and are likely to continue to do so after the draft if Bledsoe is not moved this week, sources confirmed.
At this point the Knicks’ talent cupboard is so barren that any lottery choice would be an instant lift. But considering Jackson’s recent statements on three-point shooting in modern basketball, it’s ironic that the Knicks would chase a sweet-shooting big man. Phil doesn’t make decisions based on conventional wisdom, which should make the Knicks selection the most dramatic moment of the draft.
