In a deal that could very well change the way you look at life forever, Isla Fisher impregnator Sacha Baron Cohen has signed on to play Queen singer Freddie Mercury in a biopic about his life. The film will take place in the periods leading up to Live Aid, when Mercury was the world’s biggest rock star, spending sleepless nights in heaps of gorgeous female groupies… *handed misspelled note from Chodin* Really? Just dudes, you say?

Peter Morgan will write the script, which means it should be both factually accurate and ass-kickingly entertaining since he wrote Frost/Nixon and The Last King of Scotland. Fact: While reading Morgan’s script for Scotland, Forest Whitaker’s eyes went normal. But as soon as he opened the Vantage Point script – POP! – back to googly.

Hey Deadline, does Beezlebub have a devil put aside for me, for meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee?

A rights package has been set that includes the band’s tunes, including Bohemian Rhapsody, We Will Rock You, We Are the Champions, Another One Bites The Dust and You’re My Best Friend. It is unclear whether Baron Cohen will sing—I’m told he can sing—or whether Mercury’s vocals will be used. Nobody sang like Mercury, so trying to replicate him would be a tall order. These decisions will be made as a director gets hired. Mercury died November 24, 1991 of complications from AIDS.

GK Films is teaming up with Robert DeNiro’s Tribeca Films to produce this glorious monster, and it also marks the first time that the surviving members of Queen – whatshisface, thatotherguy, youknow, thatguy – have licensed their songs for use in a film about the band. The dramatic turn will be unique for the multi-talented Cohen, but his experience in 69ing men made him a lock for the role.

In related music movie news, Fox just signed Brett Ratner to direct Chris Klein in a biopic about Creed.
