To say “Where the Wild Things Are” has been a long time coming is an understatement.  Director Spike Jonze began filming his adaptation of Maurice Sendak’s classic children’s novel in 2006, but encountered a much longer than expected production process that involved matching CG facial expressions to the Wild Things costumes  which were filled with noteworthy actors such as James Gandolfini, Forest Whitaker and Chris Cooper. From an aesthetic viewpoint, the results are startling and impressive.

With only a few weeks until opening, Warner Bros. has made five new clips of the film available to view.  As in Sendak’s book, young Max journeys to the land of the Wild Things where he soon becomes king.  Jonze and co-screenwriter Dave Eggers have expanded the story dramatically and you can get a good sense of what they have added and their tone in this combined 7 minute preview embedded in the clips below.
