A Piece Of The Lakers Court From Kobe’s Last Game Sold For A Small Fortune

Kobe Bryant’s final game created indelible memories for all in attendance, as well as the millions watching at home. For some, however, memories aren’t enough — they need collectibles, memorabilia, merchandising, and perhaps even moichandizhing! For the intersection of those people and the very rich, one part of the festivities was the item to have — the special-edition floor of the Staples Center, emblazoned with Kobe’s former No. 8.

The court segment, which was signed by Kobe after the game, was reportedly sold for the staggering price of $179,100. It’s made up of four panels measuring 4 feet by 8 feet, a total of 128 square feet if our rudimentary math is to be believed. That brings the price of the hardwood to a hair under $1,400 per square foot, or the relative price of a really expensive apartment (or, in Los Angeles, a pretty cheap apartment).

No announcement was made on the identity of the buyer, nor any word yet on if the section of court featuring the number 24 on it is planned to be sold. It’s got a hell of a precedent to beat, if so.
