Cancer is a horrible, nasty, disgusting beast. Pediatric cancer is evil personified. There is no child on Earth who deserves to go through the pain that is cancer. Especially not this 7-year-old boy who spent two years growing his hair specifically for pediatric cancer patients and was diagnosed shortly after.
The boy’s name is Vinny Desautels, and according to the family’s GoFundMe page, he endured two years of teasing and being mistaken for a girl while growing his hair long enough to donate. Vinny told Fox 40, “I want to help people so they don’t have to go to the doctors to fight cancer.”
As told on the family’s GoFundMe page, not long ago, Vinny returned from school complaining about pain in his knee. Shortly after that, doctors identified a growth on the Iliac bone of his hip, as well as a malignant mass on his eye. The cancer is aggressive, and though Vinny is facing it bravely, the family remains at Sutter Medical, downtown Sacramento for testing and treatment.
Vinny’s father, Jason, is a combat veteran and his mother, Amanda, is six months pregnant. Like all parents, their sole concern is Vinny’s treatment and well being, so Vinny’s grandparents have set up the GoFundMe page to cover the expense of hospital stays, surgeries, rent, food, gas, etc. So far they’ve raised more than half of their $150,000 goal.
A recent update expressed the family’s appreciation for all the support and stated, “We’re just a blue-collar family who enjoys BBQs with friends, and fart jokes.” To which we say, “Don’t we all?” And then the wheels start turning and we start to think maybe Vinny would like something like that Facebook page “Doggies for Anthony.” Should we do Farts for Vinny? How awesome would it be to keep this kid laughing?
