Things got trippy on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert when Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer of Broad City (blessedly returning for season three tonight) showed up, which is more or less what we’ve come to expect from the duo’s talk show appearances. Being the cool ultra New York City hipsters that they are, Jacobson and Glazer brought with them a bag of those rainbow bagels for the decidedly less hip Colbert — and I think now I might be starting to understand why they’re all the rage in Brooklyn right now.
Despite the fact that the doughy rings look like they’re made of Play-Doh and apparently taste like they’ve been “dunked in a vat of lip gloss,” one bite transports Abbi, Ilana, and Stephen to a rainbow land called “Happy Bagel Place,” where the late night host is recruited to stop the evil Bagel King and save the bagel babies from dying in the cream cheese mines. There’s also some stuff about baby bagel wives and immortality. It gets… weird.
Thankfully Colbert was up for the challenge, even if it means that he’s seeing dancing rainbow bagels now for probably the rest of his life. Those LSD flashbacks are a bitch, man.
