McDonalds has been enjoying a nice rebound after a period of your local Hamburglar screaming “THE SKY IS FALLING!” into your face while looking at quarterly numbers. It was revealed last month that the golden arches have a nice shine to them again, with sales bouncing back courtesy of gambits like all-day breakfast and menu revamps. Now comes word there could be a Chicken McGriddle arriving at a franchise near you.
Yes, McDonalds (guardians of nightmare spokesmoon Mac Tonight) is testing out a twist on the McGriddle that will put a fried chicken patty between a pair of syrup-infused pancake buns. Stoners have tried to negotiate this deal with fast food clerks forever, so this is a landmark moment in the community. If you want to try this intriguing sandwich you’ll need to be prepared to travel, though. The Chicken McGriddle is getting a tryout at 11 central Ohio locations. Why Ohio? Brian Mortellaro, a local franchise owner with eight McDonalds to his name, has been the dude that’s leading the charge for this new product.
Mortellaro cited both the Filet-o-Fish and Big Mac as examples of McD’s staples that tumbled out of the heads of franchise owners. Speaking with Columbus Business First, this would-be fast food trailblazer explains the appeal of his new edible offering.
“It’s a chicken-and-waffles taste,” Mortellaro said. “I just think that’s something that isn’t out there right now.”
Well, there’s actual chicken-and-waffles, but that’s not what this is about, is it? Anyway, the Chicken McGriddle will set back the customers of those select Ohio locations back either $1.49 or $2. (Both price points are being tested at the moment.) The breakfast sandwich’s temporary run is set to wrap up on March 27.
