There are few things more karmically satisfying than a poorly executed hostage situation. Last Sunday, at a McDonald’s near the French/Swiss border, a pair of thieves shot off one warning shot before ransacking the restaurant’s register, according to The Telegraph. Surprisingly, it was not McDonald’s supply of disgusting green burger buns they were after but actual cash.
Unbeknownst to the thieves, who attempted to steal $2,270, inside the restaurant were not one, not two, but ELEVEN members of the French paramilitary special forces. BOOM! Things were about to get hectic!
The eleven special forces members also happened to be experts in hostage situations. Oh boy, it’s not looking good for the thieves.
The AFP reported that the special forces agents elected not to engage in conflict until the heist was over so as not put anyone else in danger. Before even needing to intervene, though, the first cash-carrying thief tripped! His attempt to flee was thwarted by his own careless limbs and it was at that point that one of the special forces agents captured the man.
The other thief, who attempted a similar ploy and refused to give up his weapon, was shot in the abdomen by a special forces agent and arrested.
Both men are in their early twenties and were taken to the hospital. They face multiple charges. Meanwhile, the special French paramilitary special forces – a unit created in the aftermath of the 1972 Olympic hostage situation – will add this heist to a long list of operations which also includes the 1994 hijacking of an Air France flight.
