Your Daily Funk – Chaka Khan & Rufus’s “Do You Love What You Feel”

Ask anyone in the crew and they’ll tell you I’m pretty acrid when it comes to today’s music. Can’t say the shoe fits all that well but I’ll admit to being partial to records made long before I hit the scene. Rufus’Masterjam, for example, has seen its fair share of spins in the past week or so, playing right to my anti-generation Y sensibilities. “Do You Love What You Feel” kicks off the album and I’m pretty sure there’s a direct correlation between the song’s replay value and the video’s dustiness.

Oh you thought that was it? We might as well make this a two for one situation because this album deserves it. Quincy Jones could’ve phoned in eight more tracks and went home to Peggy but he kept the effort going well into the long player. “What Am I Missing?” approaches Masterjam’s finale with a cool bass line, great overall instrumentation and Chaka’s iconic voice. It’s the far more soulful, comfortable alternative to “Do You Love What You Feel’s” boisterous opening statement. The joint still jams though but you already knew that. This is Your Daily Funk after all.
