It’s been less than a year since Prince dropped two albums with his backing band 3rdEyeGirl, but The Purple One didn’t make it to 32 career studio albums by taking breaks.
According to the band members, Prince will be dropping another album before the year is out. 3rdEyeGirl told BBC 6 Music that it will be called the The Hit & Run Album, like Prince’s recent secret shows.
According to 3rdEyeGirl, the album was made with Prince’s hardcore stans in mind.
“Super hardcore Prince fans that know every song he’s ever recorded — we refer to them as ‘The Purple Collective’ or ‘The Purple Army’ — this album is absolutely for them, because it’s super funky,” 3rdEyeGirl said. “It’s weird. There’s a lot of experimental sound. It’s just hit after hit and definitely caters to those fans who just love to hear what Prince has to say, rather than wanting to always hear that classic Purple Rain Prince sound.”
The album will feature Prince’s recent single “HARDROCKLOVER,” as well as previously unreleased track “1,000 Hugs and Kisses,” which Prince recorded in 1992 while on the Diamonds & Pearls tour. It will also have a re-working of Prince’s meme-spreading slow jam, “This Could Be Us.”
