In spite of all the hype, creepy mini-games, and conflicting reports that all still pointed to Rihanna’s new album ANTI dropping before the end of the year, it looks like RiRi’s latest album hasn’t even been finished. This news isn’t coming from some shady unnamed source on some backwater gossip site, either. Pop hitmaker Sia told BBC Radio 2 in no uncertain terms that Rihanna is still scrounging for songs to fill out her eighth studio album.
Via Idolator:
“The other night she came over and listened to half of 25 songs I played her because she’s still looking for songs for her new album,” Sia revealed. “She was there to listen to songs and see if there was anything that she was into. It was a business meeting for sure. She took four [songs], but I don’t know if they’ll end up [on the album].”
Sia has been fairly open about writing for Rihanna in the last few weeks. A significant portion of her recent Rolling Stone article dealt with what it’s like to write for A-listers like Ms. Fenty. Spoiler: there’s not as much elbow-rubbing as you might think.
“They’ll entice me into a session by saying, ‘Rihanna will definitely be there’ or ‘Kanye will definitely be there,’ but it’s hilarious because I turn up and, almost always, they never come. So I went into the studio to write for Rihanna with Kanye and neither of them showed up and stayed for less than an hour. They had two tracks. They told me what they had wanted. There were notes from Kanye, and I can’t even remember what they were.”
So maybe we won’t get ANTI this year. Then again, 2015 made Late Nights: The Album happen, so anything is possible.
