Bernie Sanders has spent god knows how many hours over the last few months campaigning to become the Democratic Party’s nominee for the presidency. His last vacation – or, rather, his last thing that kind of seems like a vacation – was probably back in early 2015. Now he’s campaigning in California ahead of the state’s primary on June 7 and oh hey, the biggest basketball game of the year just happens to be on Monday night.
Sanders managed to snag tickets with his pal Danny Glover for Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals between the Golden State Warriors and the Oklahoma City Thunder.

According to a spokesperson, Sanders has an interesting reason for attending the game, and it has nothing to do with the fact that he enjoys basketball.

The whole “ultimate underdog” thing has been one of the main themes of Sanders’ campaign, but this is a bit of a stretch by the Vermont senator’s spokesperson. Yes, coming back from 3-1 down is a major comeback, but saying that it was a “mathematical impossibility for them to win” is a bit out there. It is, however, a way to compare his underdog campaign with the playoff run for the team that won the most games in NBA history, which is pretty clever.
Still, not to bury the lede, but Bernie Sanders managed to get pretty solid seats for Game 7 of the biggest basketball game this season. Not bad, Bernie.
