If you don’t already know the name Greg Foster, you should. Last Sunday, Foster broke the world record for eating Carolina Reaper peppers. He managed to choke down 120 grams of the muy picante peppers in one minute at the Arizona Hot Sauce Expo in front of a judges from the Guinness Book of World Records.
It all started when Foster, a one-time pepper farmer, announced, “My name is Greg and I’m from California.” He followed this with the ominous, “I’m going to eat so many peppers, I’m going to be sh*tting fire for two weeks.”
It’s probably an on point prediction.
If this doesn’t seem like a ridiculous record to break, you obviously don’t know about this horrifyingly hot pepper. Breaking a world record is great, but doing it by eating the hottest pepper in the world is just plain crazy. If you want an idea of how crazy this is, just click any of the links of people eating Carolina Reapers in this paragraph. It’s pretty rough to watch.
The Carolina Reaper, also known as HP22B, is the hottest pepper in the world according to the folks at Guinness. It has held this title since 2013. Created by combing a Red Habanero and a Pakistani Naga, this mouth-blistery monstrosity clocks in at 2.2 million Scoville Heat Units (The measurements of heat). By comparison, that wimpy jalapeño that you slice up and add to your taco salad is only about 3,ooo units. So kudos Greg Foster, you godd*mn madman!
