Those Chipotle hipsters are always shaking things up, and now, a mom has found what she considers to be a NSFW scrawling on her son’s cup. The woman duly posted the evidence to Imgur on Thursday. The cup contained some graffiti-style writing with “reproductive sex” standing out prominently amongst the flotsam.
Was this mother outraged? Even if she wasn’t truly upset, that’s the message she was sending. The mom did point out that the message was on her child’s cup. She didn’t post the photo with a “Hey, guys, look what I found, so rad!” sort of caption. The woman wanted the Internet to know that her son’s eyes may have spotted these words and — gasp — immediately asked about the birds and bees. We don’t know the child’s age, but the lady must feel he’s too young to digest the concept. Here’s the Chipotle cup in question:
Even worse than the “reproductive sex” caption is the “who wants to feel so small?” followup below, amirite? Talk about an insult. Some drunk college bro will totally take that the wrong way.
Fortunately for mom, she can rest assured that there is a perfectly rational explanation for this scandalous message on her kid’s Chipotle cup. The food chain has paired up with spacey authors such as Anthony Doerr to dress up their partially recycled drink holders. This particular quote comes from Anthony Doerr’s Cultivating Thought series:
Tattoo Earth’s 4.5-billion-year timeline onto your arm, shoulder to fingertip, and your upper arm will get nothing but geologic mayhem: meteorites, magma, acid rain. Life won’t begin until your bicep, and from there to your wrist it’s all single-celled, oceangoing stuff. Reproductive sex won’t show up until your wristwatch, and creatures that are finally big enough to see – tubes and fronds and weird Precambrian plant-animals—will crisscross the back of your hand.
This is far too scandalous for words, but because cynicism prevails, perhaps Chipotle had to have known something like this would happen. After all, online buzz is the best kind of buzz.
