Finally, someone who is truly happy. After winning free Domino’s pizza for a year, Emily O’Keefe of St. John’s, Newfoundland, has declared that she has reached her “ultimate happiness.”
Now, let me just take a step back here to tell a personal story. Back in 2012, I won a year’s worth of free Chick-fil-A for participating in the First 100 giveaway they hold at every new restaurant opening. After sleeping fitfully on the hard pavement of the parking lot (because we had to be “on premises,” which didn’t include the surrounding grass) in the middle of Mississippi January, I drove away with a backache and fifty-two coupons for a free Chick-fil-A Sandwich Meal. It was a great time. But was it ultimate happiness? Well…maybe I’m just hard to please.
The pizza contest was held by Domino’s Pizza of Atlantic Canada to celebrate the opening of a new store in St. John’s. Once the Facebook page reached 15,000 likes, a winner was chosen among followers who shared the post with their friends. O’Keefe entered because, as she told the CBC, “I thought the idea of winning free pizza for a year was so hilarious that I had to be a part of it.”
On January 6, O’Keefe was thrilled when she heard the news that her name had been drawn.
O’Keefe has been enjoying her newfound pizza riches since she collected them on Friday.
She plans on sharing photos herself enjoying each of the 108 pizzas she won. (Check out her Instagram, and you can she she’s already started to make good on that promise.) And yeah—she’s determined to take advantage of every single coupon over the next year. “I’m going to progressively get a little bit rounder as each month goes by and I’m probably not going to buy groceries for the rest of the year, which is going to be incredible,” O’Keefe, a barista at Starbucks, said.
As for the ultimate happiness thing, O’Keefe elaborated on the statement for BuzzFeed Canada. “My idea of ultimate happiness has always been the feeling you get when you’re at a big party with all of your friends and family celebrating something you all love. Which I always thought would be my wedding,” she said. Now, apparently, it’s going to be weekly pizza parties hosted by the self-described “Pizza Queen.”
That said, O’Keefe does have a boyfriend, and does actually still want to get married. But “now it has to top a year of free pizza in my heart.”
Will there be pizzas at her wedding? Will she be utterly and entirely sick of pizza by December? Only time will tell.
As for my year’s worth of free Chick-fil-A, I tried my hardest, but just couldn’t use them up by the year’s end. Turns out, sometimes you really can have too much of a good thing.
